Food Diary in Bangkok

Not being able to eat chili and too much sweet stuff, I'm probably missing out a lot in Bangkok. Nonetheless, I've tasted some good flavors during this trip and I'm contented 😊

Sugar floss rolled in savory wrap. A snack in Ayuthaya.

Phat thai at Soi Rambuttri. A combination of sweet, sour, and salty. Seldom eat raw bean sprouts but these go really well with the rice noddles.

Ishigama sourdough bread. Super soft and doesn't really have the fragrance of sourdough. It probably contains just a tiny bit of sourdough.

Non-spicy tomyam noodle soup at Emquartier food court. Only a faint taste of tomyam and super salty.

Noodles in yong taufu soup at Emquartier food court. Smells of fermented beans; tastes like the yong taufu sauce in Malaysia.

Coconut ice cream at Emquartier food court. Beneath the ice cream is glutinous rice. Toppings include fried lentils, palm fruits, coconut flesh, and melon cubes.

Phat thai and stir-fried kailan in Chatuchak. Nat was surprised to see red-colored phat thai. The kailan is surprisingly fresh and crunchy!

Chestnuts roasted in small stones, Chinatown. Took me about 10 tries to figure how to crack the shell nicely and smoothly.

Our lunch at Ayuthaya: non-spicy tomyam soup, fried omelette with basil, and stir-fried lotus stems. The tomyam soup is superb! The omelette is really yummy especially with the red shiracha sauce. The lotus stems taste very earthy and almost muddy 😆

Simply love these crispy toasts! The packaging is retro and cool with female astronauts and rolling pins as spaceships!

Phat thai at the canteen of Nat's university. Cheap but not very fulfilling, so we went outside and had...

Yogurt!!!

Dear Nat packed healthy dinner for my first night.

Accomplished my mission of showing Nat how to make braised tofu with gojuchang, the Korean chili bean paste.

Healthy and yummy dinner at Central World food court: colorful buddha's bowl, pineapple fried rice, and Vietnamese spring rolls.

Love the vegetarian stall at Central World food court so much that I went back again the next day for phat thai. Probably the best phat thai of the trip.

Nat insisted on treating me bimbimbab dinner at Emquartier. Tastes wonderful especially with the various types of kimchi.

We also ordered a kimchi pancake minus the seafood. The waitress was so concerned that it would be tasteless without the squids. To me, it was full of flavors!

Finally tasted the legendary sourdough bread from Paul bakery. The crumb is slightly on the dry side but on the whole, it's rich in both fragrance and flavors.
